Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Artur Tyanulin scored his first goal and Étienne Marcoux made 22 saves in his Beast debut as Brampton defeated Newfoundland 3-2 on Saturday night.

Saturday was a momentous day for the ECHL. The Brampton Beast took on the Newfoundland Growlers for the first time in franchise history. It was also the first meeting of Canadian teams in the league's 30-year plus history.

Brampton drew first blood in the contest, as Daniel Ciampini was able to roof a shot over the shoulder of Growlers starter Eamon McAdam at 12:46. Ciampini, who was recently assigned from the Belleville Senators, took a gorgeous pass from Erik Bradford and David Vallorani to open the action.

Not to be outdone, David Pacan was able to send a perfect pass all the way up the ice and onto the stick of a streaking Aaron Luchuk. The crafty forward made no mistake and slid a backhand shot through the legs of McAdam to give the Beast a 2-0 lead at 12:56.

The Growlers battled back and would cut into Brampton's lead, as Josh Kestner was able to break in and send a shot past Beast starter Étienne Marcoux at 18:55.

Brampton would head into the first intermission ahead by a score of 2-1 and leading in shots by a count of 11-8.

The second period saw the Beast run into some penalty trouble, but they were able to kill off two five-on-three Growlers power plays.

Brampton then struck with a late tally, as Pacan found the puck in the offensive zone and was able to send a pass to Artur Tyanulin in the slot. The slick Russian made no mistake and sent the shot through the five hole of McAdam to give the Beast a 3-1 lead at 17:23.

The Beast would head into the second intermission ahead by a score of 3-1 but trailing in the shots department by a count of 18-16.

The third period saw the Growlers cut into the Beast lead at 6:49. Kestner was able to sneak in past the Brampton defense and score his second of the game.

The Beast were able to hold the line late as the Growlers made a furious push to tie the contest. Marcoux held solid and made a few timely saves in order to preserve the 3-2 Beast win.

Notes: Molson Three Stars 3) Pacan (BRA) 2) Kestner (NFL) 1) Marcoux (BRA). The Beast finished the day zero-for-six on the man advantage. Brampton went zero-for-five on the power play. The Beast and Growlers renew hostiles tomorrow at the CAA Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
