Allen Americans News Release

Rapid City, SD - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, beat the Rapid City Rush on Friday night by a score of 3-2 in a shootout.

The Americans opened the scoring late in the first period, when Braylon Shmyr fired home his sixth of the season on the power play. Alex Breton and Thomas Frazee drew the assists. Rapid City outshot the Americans 11 to 10 in the first. Allen went 1 for 2 on the power play, while the Rush went 0 for 2.

The Americans continued the scoring in the second period, as Zach Pochiro won a battle and then made the Rush pay. Pochiro scored his third goal of the season from Braylon Shmyr and Thomas Frazee at 4:09 of the frame. Allen outshot Rapid City 12 to 8 in the second period.

Rapid City would battle back in the final frame, scoring twice, including a 5 on 3 power play goal. The two teams would battle to the end of regulation tied at 2-2. Nobody would score in the overtime period, as both goaltenders made big saves.

In the shootout, the Americans would score first, as former Rapid City Rush forward Dante Salituro beat his former team to put Allen up 1-0 in the shootout. Rapid City would answer, as their third shooter Mason McCarty found the back of the net to even the shootout at one each. The Americans would end the game with the next shooter, as Chad Butcher scored the game-winner in his first game in an Allen sweater to give the Americans the victory.

"It was painful to watch when you giveaway a two-goal lead going to the third period," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "They get a minute and a half of 5 on 3 power play and we don't kill it. Then we score a goal and it doesn't count because of a quick whistle. We made a bad turnover in the slot. I thought their goaltender was pretty good and made some big saves. I thought we had some good opportunities in overtime, but I tfelt like if the game goes to a shootout we would win."

The Americans lost forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel to an upper body injury early in the game. He did not return.

Allen won the battle of shots on goal 42 to 37, going 1 for 6 with the man advantage. The same two teams battle it out tomorrow night at 8:05 pm CST.
