Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks (3-1-1-0) earned a dominant win on Saturday, topping the Indy Fuel (3-2-0-0) by a 7-2 final score at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

The offensive onslaught was led by captain Rocco Carzo, who came through with four points, all in the first period, to help the Mavericks bounce back from a Friday night setback. Jared VanWormer and Mike Panowyk also finished the contest with multi-point efforts, finishing the game with three and two points, respectively.

Indy struck first in the opening frame with a power play goal near the halfway point, but an offensive onslaught from the Mavericks gave the home team a commanding 4-1 lead at the first break.

It was the captain who got the scoring started for Kansas City, a shorthanded goal to knot the game up at one apiece. The Mavericks got their separation late in the frame, lighting the lamp three times in a span of 1:37 with scores from Darian Dziurzynski, Jordan Ernst and Carzo once again. The score was Ernst's first professional goal.

After a scoreless second, the Mavericks found twine twice in the first 3:49 of the third, VanWormer and Jordan Klimek beating the goaltender to push the cushion to 6-1. Indy's Quentin Shore responded shortly after, then David Dziurzynski put the exclamation point on the win with a breakaway goal late in the frame to produce the 7-2 final.

The Mavericks return to action next weekend with a pair of home games, Friday against Wichita and Saturday against the Utah Grizzlies. Tickets for both games remain on sale.
