October 27, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK - A lopsided affair between the Tulsa Oilers and Wichita Thunder needed 15 seconds of free hockey to determine a winner, as the Oilers (4-0-1) beat the Thunder (3-1-1) by a 2-1 score. Tulsa outshot Wichita 54-16 in the game.

Tulsa dominated the first period, outshooting the Thunder 12-0 in the first ten minutes of the game. But Wichita carried a 1-0 lead into the locker room after P.C. Labrie scored a short-handed goal stemming from an Oilers turnover. Tulsa finished with 17 shots in the frame, but Thunder goaltender Shane Starrett stopped all 17.

The Oilers outshot Wichita 22-2 in the middle frame and held a 39-7 advantage through 40 minutes. More importantly for Tulsa, the Oilers tied the game in the period when Jared Thomas blasted a shot from the point through a screen on a delayed penalty.

After a scoreless third period, Charlie Sampair tapped in a centering pass from Chris Forney 15 seconds into overtime to seal the win for Tulsa. Starrett stopped 52 of 54 in the loss, the most saves for any goaltender in the ECHL so far this season. Rookie Evan Fitzpatrick picked up his first professional win, stopping 15 Wichita shots.

The Oilers finish off an eight-game home stand to start the season with three games in three nights next week against the Rapid City Rush at the BOK Center. Tulsa hosts the first game Thursday night at 7:05pm on $1 Beer Night. Fans 21-years-old and above can purchase beers for just $1 at designated concession stands.

Tulsa and Rapid City duke it out again Friday and Saturday at 7:05pm at the BOK Center. The Oilers will wear special St. Louis Blues affiliation jerseys Saturday night, which will be auctioned off after the game.
