Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - The Cincinnati Cyclones (3-1-2-0) earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Kalamazoo Wings in Saturday night. Forwards Alex Wideman and Pascal Aquin netted the goals for the Cyclones, who snapped their two-game skid.
After a scoreless opening period, Kalamazoo took the lead early in the second when forward Kyle Blaney capitalized off a Cyclones turnover and scored to put the Wings ahead, 1-0.
Cincinnati stole the momentum back and evened the game up at the 11:47 mark of the frame when forward Jesse Schultz sent a pass ahead to Wideman who sprung free on a breakaway and beat Wings goaltender Jake Hildebrand to tie the game, 1-1, through two periods. Like the game on Friday night, tensions between the two teams ramped up in the second, as the teams combined for 32 minutes of penalties in the frame.
In the third, Cincinnati received some good fortune while shorthanded, when Aquin took the puck at the defensive blueline and skated in on Hildebrand and scored to put the Cyclones ahead, 2-1, 8:09 into the frame.
The teams continued to trade scoring chances throughout the remainder of the period, however Kalamazoo was not able to net the equalizer, and the Cyclones held on for the 2-1 victory. Cincinnati was outshot, 40-30, on the evening, with goaltender Michael Houser putting together a stellar 39-save performance in the win.
Cincinnati heads back to Kalamazoo next Friday night to complete their three-game series with the Wings. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
