Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI. - Kalamazoo had their three-game win streak snapped on Saturday night as the Cyclones topped Kalamazoo 2-1.

Kyle Blaney scored for the second consecutive night, while Kyle Thomas had his four-game point streak snapped.

Kalamazoo never led on Friday night before the final buzzer but changed that on Saturday, taking a 1-0 lead early in the second. Kyle Blaney opened the scoring when a mishandled pass by the Cyclones bounced to a wide-open Blaney in the high slot. Spinning around the forward quickly ripped a shot into the top corner of the net, giving the K-Wings the early lead 2:53 into the middle period. Cincinnati tied the game up just over midway through regulation on a breakaway. Alex Wideman broke into the zone all alone, wristing a shot past Jake Hildebrand, knotting the game at 1-1.

The tie remained intact until just shy of the midway point of the third period. Short-handed Pascal Aquin took a pass from Justin Lemcke, and took a rolling shot that jumped over Hildebrand, trickling into the net and giving the Cyclones the 2-1 lead. Kalamazoo would put the pressure on Cincinnati but Michael Houser shut the door stopping all 12 shots in the third period, sealing the 2-1 victory.

Jake Hildebrand finished the night stopping 28 of 30 shots, while Houser stopped 39 of 40. Both teams were held scoreless on the power play, going a combined 0-for-7.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday afternoon as the K-Wings host the Toledo Walleye on Education Day. Puck drop is set for 10:30am.
