Game #1: @ Clinton 6, Cedar Rapids 0

Matt Farnum (8-8; 4.37) stayed hot with five shutout frames, allowing five hits without issuing a base on balls. Nick Seely and Cesar Herrera each fired a shutout inning in relief to preserve the win.

Farnum, who struggled through a horrible slump in the middle of the season, finishes the month of August with a record of 3-1 and a 1.86 ERA. He has fanned 20 and walked six in 29 frames this month and the MWL is hitting just .236 against him during that span.

Larry Grayson went 2-3 with a homer to drive in three runs to pace the Clinton offense, as he has all month. Grayson is hitting just .257 / .319 / .441 overall, but has hit .354 / .409 / .595 with four bombs and 15 RBIs in 79 August at-bats

Game #2: @ Clinton 3, Cedar Rapids 2

In the 2nd half of the twin bill, the LumberKings went an extra inning to get the win as Micah Furtado delivered a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to cap a 2-4 effort. Catcher Cody Clark went 3-3 with a pair of doubles and scored once.

Furtado has hit .376 / .459 / .527 in 93 August at-bats.

Jesse Chavez (4.68) went the first six, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks, and Joel Kirsten (7-1; 2.61) earned the win with two shutout innings, allowing two hits without issuing a walk.

The LumberKings are currently leading the 2nd half playoff race with 8 games remaining. Kane County and Cedar Rapids have already qualified with a 1-2 finish in the 1st half. Clinton finishes out the year with an 8 game series with the Swing of the Quad Cities starting tonight. The first four games are in Clinton and the last four to close out the season are in Quad Cities.
