CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Outfielder Nick Kimpton, who won a silver medal as a member of Australia's baseball team in the recently completed Summer Olympics, has been assigned to the Kernels from Rancho Cucamonga of the California League, it was announced Monday.

Kimpton will join the Kernels today in Fort Wayne, Ind., for the start of a four-game series against the Wizards.

Kimpton was 0-for-2 and played in four games for Australia in the Olympic Games.

This is Kimpton's third assignment with the Kernels. He batted .262 in 93 games for the Kernels in 2002. He spent the 2003 season at Rancho Cucamonga and started the 2004 season with the Quakes. He was assigned to the Kernels on April 19 and batted .280 in 30 games before being reassigned to Rancho Cucamonga on June 15. He was placed on the temporary inactive list on Aug. 6 so he could play in the Olympics for Australia and reactivated on Aug. 27 and was 0-for-2 in one game.

The assignment of Kimpton to the Kernels brings their roster to 24 players, one shy of the Midwest League limit.
