Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
PEORIA, IL -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattler offense broke out of a slump that had lasted for over two weeks in a 13-8 win over the Peoria Chiefs Monday night at O'Brien Field. Jeremy Dutton went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs and Michael Cox hit his eleventh homer of the season for the Rattlers. Rattler starter Brandon Moorhead was the beneficiary of all the offense and got his ninth win of the season.
Peoria (69-63 overall, 31-32 second half) scored in the bottom of the first. Anthony Monegan singled to start the inning, stole second, and moved to third on an infield grounder. Daric Barton drove in Monegan with a single to right.
The Rattlers (57-75, 26-37) rallied for three runs in the top of the second. Dutton singled with two out and no one on base. Cox and Justin Ruchti drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Francisco Gerez doubled into the left-centerfield gap to drive in all three runners.
In the fourth, Dutton walked with one out and Cox followed with his eleventh home run of the season for a 5-1 lead. Those two runs marked the first time since August 13th that the Rattlers scored more than three runs in a game.
Wisconsin jumped on Chief reliever Adam Acosta for five runs in the top of the seventh. Chris Collins drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Peoria shortstop Brendan Ryan booted a double play ball for an error that allowed the second run to score. A walk loaded the bases and Dutton unloaded them with a three-run double to the right-centerfield gap.
Peoria scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a passed ball and a one-out single by Matt Dryer. But, Moorhead got the final two outs to keep the Rattlers in front 10-3.
Moorhead struck out six over seven innings to move to fourth on the Timber Rattler single season strikeout list. The right-hander has 154 strikeouts this season. Clint Nageotte struck out 187 batters in 2001. Gil Meche had 168 strikeouts in 1998 and Kevin Olore struck out 158 in 2001.
Dutton got his fourth hit of the night with an RBI single in the top of the ninth. Chris Colton had an RBI double and Justin Ruchti had an RBI single in the top of the ninth as well to push the Rattler lead to 13-3.
The Chiefs scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning off Rattler reliever Kenly Chang. Joe Mather hit a long two-run homer to conclude the scoring.
The Rattlers scored more runs in this game (13), than they had in the first eight games (11) of their current twelve game road trip.
Wisconsin continues their series with the Chiefs Tuesday night. Jason Mackintosh (6-7, 3.76ERA) is scheduled to start for Wisconsin. Stuart Pomeranz (10-4, 4.04ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Chiefs. Game time is 6:00pm.
