Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, OH â Right handed pitchers Kyle Edens and David Shafer have been promoted to the Potomac Cannons of the Carolina League. The former Dragons should help bolster the Cannons pitching staff as the team prepares for the 2004 Carolina League Playoffs. Edens began the season in Potomac before being reassigned to Dayton in early July. The third round selection in the 2002 First Year Player Draft by the Reds appeared in 15 games with the Dragons in 2004.
Shafer began the season as the Dragons closer and was moved into the starting rotation after allowing no runs and just one hit in his first 10 appearances out of the bullpen. The righty appeared in 31 games, making seven starts and posted a 5-3 record with five saves and a 2.92 ERA in 77 innings of work. With the two roster moves, the Dragons active roster sits at 23, two below the MWL maximum.
