Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Erie, PA - A scoreless tie in the eighth inning was broken by a three-run, Jose Azocar home run that was the difference as Erie upended Bowie 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Baysox got another outstanding start from LHP Zac Lowther. He threw a third consecutive scoreless start, working six shutout innings. Lowther has now worked 21 and 2/3rd consecutive scoreless innings.
Opposing Lowther was last year's number one pick Casey Mize. He worked an eight-pitch, 1-2-3 first and retired the first eight hitters. The Baysox had their chances but could not break through.
In the third inning, Chris Clare singled with two down. Mize then walked both Mason McCoy and Ryan McKenna consecutively. Austin Hays came up with the bases loaded and two down but he bounced out to third to end the threat. In the fifth inning, Carlos Perez doubled to left-center on the first pitch of the inning. The Baysox could not move him however and he was left stranded.
Brian Gonzalez entered in the seventh inning and worked through two baserunners to keep the game tied to the eighth. Unfortunately he could not do it again. With two on and one down, Azocar lifted an opposite field home run to put Erie on top for good. The home run was Azocar's first of the season.
On Memorial Day Monday, May 27th the Baysox wrap up their season series with Erie as Alex Wells makes the start. First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior on wnav.com, baysox.com and via the Tune-In App by searching Baysox.
Bowie heads home for a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday, May 28th against Akron. Saturday, June 1st will be Star Wars Night! Get tickets at 301-464-4865 or purchase online at baysox.com.
