Riley Adams Homers Again in 8-5 Fisher Cats Loss

Manchester, NH - Despite another impressive day at the plate from Riley Adams, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) fell 8-5 to the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies Double-A affiliate) on Sunday afternoon at Delta Dental Stadium in front of 6,594 fans.

Adams, the No. 28 prospect in the Blue Jays system according to MLB.com, went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a walk, and a 438-foot two-run homer, his second long ball in as many games.

The Fisher Cats started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Santiago Espinal reached second on a two-base throwing error, and came home two batters later after an RBI single by Adams.

New Hampshire added a run in the bottom of the third inning. Kevin Smith ripped a double into the left field corner and Forrest Wall followed with an RBI single to put the Fisher Cats up 2-0.

The Yard Goats tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer from Bret Boswell.

Adams drilled a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the Fisher Cats back in front after a single by Espinal. The blast cleared the pitch clock monitor to the right of the batter's eye.

Hartford cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Mylz Jones reached on a hit-by-pitch, Manny Melendez followed with a single, and Colton Welker knocked in the run with a sacrifice fly.

The Yard Goats went back in front in the top of the sixth inning. Trejo singled and took second on a ground out. Brian Serven was hit by a pitch and Boswell singled to tie the game. Serven then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-4 Hartford.

Danny Young came into the game in the seventh inning, and retired all six batters he faced.

The Yard Goats broke the game open with three runs in the ninth inning thanks to four singles, a hit by pitch and throwing error.

Notes:

Yennsy Diaz extended his scoreless streak to 18.2 innings before allowing two runs in the fourth inning. He had worked two consecutive seven-inning starts without allowing a run.

The series concludes on Monday, Memorial Day with a 3:35 p.m. game. The scheduled starters are Hector Perez (3-2, 6.00 ERA) for the Fisher Cats and Ty Culbreth (3-3, 4.08 ERA) for the Yard Goats.
