Rewind:

Friday, BRUINS 7 vs. Devils 1

Benoit Mondou spoiled Tuukka Rask's shutout bid at 16:55 of the third period, but the Lowell Devils allowed a season high seven goals in falling to the Providence Bruins. The Bruins put up three goals in both the first and third periods to run away with the victory. Aaron Slattengren and Matt Hendricks each notched two goals in the contest. Rask stopped all but one of the 17 shots he faced, while Providence went 3-for-6 on the power play.

Sunday, PHANTOMS 4 vs. Devils 3 (OT)

Patrick Davis' goal at 5:23 of the third period would lead to overtime, but Kyle Greentree scored just 35 seconds in to secure a 4-3 win for the Philadelphia Phantoms. Nicklas Bergfors gave Lowell a 1-0 lead with a power play goal just 3:33 into the contest, but Philadelphia would go on to score the next two with the man-advantage. Olivier Magnan-Grenier tied the score once again with 14:39 left until the first intermission. Both Davis and Bergfors notched a goal and an assist in the contest.

In the standings

Despite some bad luck in recent games, the Lowell Devils remain six points behind the sixth-place Worcester Sharks, who are winless in their last four games. The Manchester Monarchs were able to gain a point on the Sharks to widen their gap to four. Springfield could not put any more distance between themselves and Manchester, sitting two points ahead in fourth place. Though Hartford is 0-2-1-0 in their last three, they still are ten points ahead of the Falcons and only three points behind the Portland Pirates in second. The Providence Bruins have won four in a row to make it a ten-point cushion for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.

Coming Up

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will make their only visit of the season to Tsongas Arena on Wednesday, January 23. The Penguins come into the contest with the second-best penalty kill in the AHL at 86.6% (168-of-194). They have the lowest GAA in the league at 2.37 and are 15-2-0-0 when scoring the first goal. The Devils are 2-5-3-1 against East Division teams this season.

Lowell renews its rivalry on the road against the Manchester Monarchs on Friday, January 25. This will be game five of a season series in which the Devils were victorious in the first four. The Monarchs recently completed a six-game road stretch with a 4-2-0-0 record, but are winless in their last six home games (0-4-1-1). Goaltender David Taylor is 3-0-0 in his last three starts.

The Devils' last game before the All-Star Break will come at the home of the Portland Pirates on Saturday, January 26. This will be the first of three consecutive games between Lowell and Portland on the Pirates' home ice. Portland has risen to second place in the Atlantic Division thanks to a 11-1-1-2 record in its last fifteen games. Petteri Wirtanen is on an eleven-game point streak (2g, 13a).
