Last Week's Games

Wednesday, January 16th - Toronto Marlies 3 at Quad City Flames 2

The Flames fell 3-2 to the North Division leading Toronto Marlies on Wednesday night at the i wireless Center. Grant Stevenson netted his 17th goal of the year, and Warren Peters contributed his eighth goal, but it was not enough as the Flames fell to 4-3-0-1 vs. North Division opponents this year. The Flames captured a 1-0 lead when they scored the only goal of the opening frame on the power-play at 15:46 of the first. Krys Kolanos started the play by sending the puck to the point for Tim Hambly. Hambly found Grant Stevenson along the goal line and the Flames leading sniper scored his 17th goal of the year from the sharp angle past Toronto netminder Josh Pogge. The marker was Stevenson's 11th man advantage marker of the season, good for a share of second place in the league in power-play goals. The Marlies scored twice in a span of 33 seconds to snag the lead just past the midway point of the middle period. David Ling netted his ninth goal of the year on a Toronto power-play at 10:47 of the frame followed by a Michel Leveille goal at even strength to put the Marlies in front. The Flames answered with just 31 seconds left in the period when Warren Peters tipped home an Adam Pardy point shot for his eighth goal of the season. With the score knotted at two, the teams head back to the dressing room for the second intermission. John Mitchell secured the win for Toronto when he netted the only goal of the closing frame. David Ling circled the Flames zone before finding Alex Foster who fed Mitchell for his 13th goal of the year. The Flames mounted a strong closing push in the final six minutes but could not net the equalizer before falling to 18-17-2-5 on the season.

Friday, January 18th - Chicago Wolves 3 at Quad City Flames 2

The Chicago Wolves earned their fourth win in as many trips to the i wireless Center with a 3-2 win over the Flames on Friday night. Grant Stevenson scored and recorded an assist to extend his scoring streak to seven game, tying a franchise record for most consecutive games with a point. Krys Kolanos scored the other Flames goal. After a scoreless first period, Quad City took a 2-0 lead when Stevenson and Kolanos recorded power play goals just 1:03 apart early in the middle period. The Wolves answered back 1:41 later when Jordan LaVallee scored at even strength to slice the Quad City lead in half. Darren Haydar tied the scored when he scored on a delayed penalty at 13:20 of the second period. Alexandre Giroux netted the only goal of the third period when he scored off a face-off win by Bryan Little to earn the victory for Chicago.

Sunday, January 20th - Rochester Americans 2 at Quad City Flames 4

Grant Stevenson made Flames history twice in a 4-2 win over Rochester on Sunday at the i wireless Center. He netted all four goals in the win while extending his scoring streak to eight games. He is the first Flame ever to score four times in a game, and he also is on the longest scoring streak in franchise history. The teams traded goals in the opening period. The Amerks grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mark Mancari at 1:40 of the first period. Mancari netted his 13th goal of the year by lifting a loose puck over Flames netminder Curtis McElhinney. The Flames knotted the score when Grant Stevenson scored his 19th goal of 2007-08. Carsen Germyn forced a Rochester turnover along the left wing wall in the Americans zone. Germyn fed Stevenson who buried his chance. The Flames moved in front with 16 seconds left in the second period. On a Quad City power play, Stevenson tipped a Carsen Germyn point shot into the Rochester net to put the Flames in front 2-1. The marker was Stevenson's 13th power-play goal of the year, good for second in the AHL. Stevenson completed his hat trick at 12:49 of the third period when he netted his 21st goal of the year to give Quad City a 3-1 edge. The Americans cut the lead to one when Kendal McArdle scored a controversial goal with 1:45 remaining. The goal was initially not allowed and play continued. At the next stoppage, referee Dean Morton consulted with the goal judge and allowed the tally to cut the Quad City lead to one. With the Flames clinging to a 3-2 lead, Rochester pulled their netminder. Stevenson scored into the empty net to record the first four goal game in Flames history and secure the win at 4-2.
