Louisville Knock off Clippers to Open Series

August 2, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers dropped the first of a four-game series, 2-1, to the Louisville Bats tonight at Huntington Park.

Game one was a pitchers' duel through and through, as Louisville's Cody Reed and the Clippers' Shao-Ching Chiang battled back and forth for seven innings, with Reed getting the best of the Clippers in is eight and two-thirds innings.

He finished the night having allowed just one run on four hits and one walk. He struck out ten.

It took until the sixth inning for a run to cross, but the Bats broke through when Gabriel Guerrero grounded out to short, scoring Brian O'Grady, who led off with a triple, for a 1-0 lead.

Chiang would continue through the seventh inning, finishing off arguably his best start of the season. He allowed just the one run on seven hits, while striking out two. He didn't walk a batter.

Guerrero added another for the Bats with a solo homerun off Myles Jaye in the ninth inning to make it 2-0.

That run would prove important, as Yandy Diaz singled in Adam Rosales in the bottom of the ninth to pull within 2-1. Reed was then relieved by Kevin Quackenbush, who finished things off for the win.

The teams will be back at it tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. at Huntington Park.
