Mitch Walding Named IL Player of the Month
August 2, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Lehigh Valley IronPigs third baseman Mitch Walding has been named the International League Player of the Month for July.
Walding was stellar throughout the month, hitting .326 in 22 contests while leading the league with 10 home runs, 21 runs and 63 total bases. He also ranked second in RBI (26) and OPS (1.147) behind only teammate Dylan Cozens (1.198).
He finished with a flourish, recording multiple hits in four of the Pigs' last five games - a stretch that featured four different three-run home runs. Walding reached base safely in 20 of 22 contests.
In late May, Walding earned his first Major League call-up and has now featured in three stints with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Despite missing games to compete in the big leagues, Walding is tied with teammate Joey Meneses for the IL home run lead with 19. He ranks second in the league with 51 walks and 60 runs scored, seventh with 58 RBI and leads all IL hitters with a .536 slugging percentage.
A fifth-round draft pick in 2011, the 25-year old was a 2017 Eastern League All-Star and June Player of the Month with Reading before making his Triple-A debut during the IronPigs' playoff run.
Walding is the fourth IronPig to earn the honor after Andy Tracy (June 2010), Phil Klein (August 2016) and Tom Eshelman (May 2017).
The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Fans can get closer to the team than ever before with a Bacon, USA membership -- a year-round IronPigs experience pass featuring numerous amenities such as savings on parking at games and at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Coca-Cola Park, on-field VIP access to watch batting practice, access to the annual holiday party, and more.
