Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens defeated its division rival Indianapolis Indians 9-1 on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.
Grayson Greiner whacked his fourth home run of the campaign to give the Mud Hens (57-52) the insurance it needed to gain a game on the west division-leading Indians (60-50) as the season nears its end. Toledo earned sole possession of second place in the division trailing Indianapolis by 2.5 games.
Pete Kozma ended 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and Dawel Lugo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Hens offensively.
Dawel Lugo got things started with a single to lead off the second inning. Jason Krizan and Greiner then earned back to back walks loading the bases. Mikie Mahtook then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Lugo and give Toledo runners on the corners with one out. Harold Castro dribbled a single past the second basemen to score Krizan and increase the Hens lead to 2-0. With one out Kozma roped a double over the center fielder to score Greiner and Castro. Kozma stole third base on the ensuing pitch but was stranded as the Hens took a 4-0 lead into the third inning.
The Mud Hens made a one-out rally in the seventh inning scoring five runs on four hits. Machado ripped an infield single at the third baseman to put a runner on first with one out. Stewart then drew a walk followed by a double by Lugo to score Machado and move Stewart to third.
