Today's Game
This afternoon, the Bisons and Lehigh Valley IronPigs conclude a five-game series, and end their season series for 2018. Tomorrow the Herd will open with a three-game series at PNC Field against the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The Herd's second-last home stand will take place August 7-12 against the Gwinnett Stripers and the Toledo Mud Hens, after a scheduled off day on Monday.
Last Game G1: BUF 0, LHV 1
A INF Joey Meneses solo home run in the sixth inning was the only run scored in Lehigh Valley's 1-0 win over Buffalo in the first game of the doubleheader. RHP Sean Reid-Foley suffered his third defeat in Triple-A after going 6.1IP for the Herd (4H, 1R/ER, 3BB, 6SO). 3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. collected his first Triple-A hit in the loss, a single in the sixth inning. LHP Cole Irvin pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout for the IronPigs.
Last Game G2: BUF 3, LHV 2
The Bisons used a pair of home runs in the night cap to secure their first win of the series over the "Pigs. C Danny Jansen's 12th HR of the season gave the Bisons the lead, and OF Jonathan Davis' solo shot extended Buffalo's lead. Lehigh Valley would score a run in the top of the seventh, but RHP Justin Shafer notched his 10th save, while RHP Murphy Smith went five innings for his second win of the year.
Lehigh Valley (4-13)
The Bisons have won the season series against Lehigh Valley five times in the franchise's 11-year history. The "Pigs have won the season series three years in a row, including this season. Prior to Monday night's loss, the Bisons had never lost more than 10 games in a single year to Lehigh Valley. Buffalo's last season series win was in 2015 (10-8). Overall, Buffalo is 5-5-1 in the 11 season series with the IronPigs.
Today's Starter: RHP Jacob Waguespack
RHP Jacob Waguespack is making his Bisons' debut after being acquired from the Phillies in a trade on Tuesday for LHP Aaron Loup. The right hander began the 2018 season with Reading (AA), making seven starts with a 1-1 record and 3.99ERA. Waguespack also logged 14 appearances and eight starts for Lehigh Valley this year, winning each of his last three starts before the trade.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 1-3 in game one of the twin bill, with his first Triple-A hit in his second game for Buffalo. On Tuesday the 19 year-old was credited with an RBI on a sacrifice fly as well.
Rowdy Tellez
1B Rowdy Tellez played in both games on Wednesday, adding two hits in each game. Tellez went 4-5 between both ends of the doubleheader to up his batting average to .271 entering Thursday.
Bisons' Bits
The Herd is 10-8 in doubleheader games this season. After sweeping each of the first three DHs this year, Buffalo went 1-5 on the most recent road trip between Louisville and Indianapolis. That included sweeps by the Bats and Indians on 7/24 and 7/27, respectively.
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (48-59) were swept on Wednesday by the Oakland A's, falling 8-3 in the final game of the three-game series. RHP Marcus Stroman took the loss after throwing five innings in the start for the Blue Jays. RHP Danny Barnes was activated off of the disabled list on Wednesday and pitched an inning of relief in the loss also. The Jays begin a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners tonight, and will conclude their ten-game road trip on Sunday before an off day on Monday.
