Louisville Bats News Release
TONIGHT'S GAME: The Bats and Clippers meet at Huntington Park after the Bats took two of three games from the Toledo Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field. Louisville has been red-hot lately, going 13-3 in their last 16 games. LOU has also won 9 of its last 11 road games, and 12 of its last 15. Tonight, left-hander Cody Reed starts for the Bats as they face the only team that has beat them in a series since the All-Star break, the Columbus Clippers.
AGAINST COLUMBUS: Louisville and Columbus meet for the second-till-last series, a four-game set through Sunday. In their last series, Columbus swept Louisville in 4 games right out of the All-Star break. Since that series, Louisville is 13-4, and Columbus is 7-9. In 17 total matchups this season, the Bats are 6-11 against Columbus, being outscored 95-86 by the Clip Show.
FIVE FOR FIGHTING: The Bats have won each of their last 5 series, the first time that's happened since April 24 - May 8, 2016, sweeping 3 games at Norfolk (4/24-4/26), taking 4 of 5 from Durham in a split series (4/27-5/1), taking 2 of 3 vs. Norfolk (5/2-5/4) and taking 2 of 3 at Indianapolis (5/6-5/8).
-With a win today, LOU would have 5+ consecutive series wins for the first time since the 2010 season, the last time the Bats made the International League postseason. In 2010, LOU won their first 7 series coming out of the All-Star break, taking 3 of 4 vs. Lehigh Valley (7/15-7/18), 3 of 4 at Charlotte (7/19-7/22), sweeping 3 at Gwinnett (7/23-7/25), sweeping 4 vs. Charlotte (7/27-7/30), taking 3 of 4 in a split-series against Columbus (7/31-8/4), sweeping 4 vs. Norfolk (8/5-8/8), and finally, sweeping 4 at Toledo (8/9-8/12) to start the second half that season with an immaculate 24-3 record.
SCHEBLER ON REHAB: In 7 games during his current rehab stint, Scott Schebler is batting .286 (6-for-23) with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts at the plate. One night after going 3-for-4 with a home run out of the leadoff spot, Schebler appeared in the field for the first time, playing left field. He made his previous 6 starts as the designated hitter.
COMEBAXX: The Bats earned their 20th come-from-behind win this season, trailing 1-0 after the first inning, before taking a 3-1 lead in the fifth. The Clippers would tie the game in the sixth, before the Bats eventually put up a two-spot in the top of the ninth to take a 5-3 lead. The Bats are 32-19 when they score first in a game, and 17-39 when they do not score first.
WISLER MAKES ORGANIZATIONAL DEBUT: Right-handed pitcher Matt Wisler tossed 5.0 innings in his start for Louisville on Wednesday, giving up one earned run on 5 hits, walking none and striking out 5. He threw 69 pitches (43 strikes) in his first appearance as a member of the Cincinnati Reds organization after coming over from the Atlanta Braves, along with RHP Lucas Sims and OF Preston Tucker , in exchange for OF Adam Duvall .
IN A PINCH: Last night, Hernan Iribarren pinch hit for Nick Longhi and smacked a double to right field, scoring on Brian O'Grady 's two-run single that proved to be the game winner in a 5-3 win. Iribarren has thrived in that role, now batting .400 (6-for-15) as a pinch hitter this season. The double was also Iribarren's 425th hit in a Louisville Bats uniform.
