Clinton LumberKings News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - A six-run third inning rally was too much for the Clinton LumberKings to overcome as they fell 8-4 to the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park on Thursday night. The loss is the LumberKings (26-20, 59-56) seventh straight setting a new season high for consecutive losses.
Clinton was the first team to score. In the top of the second inning, they rallied for three runs with a Christopher Torres two-run single through the right side of the infield.
Quad Cities (26-20, 69-43) answered immediately with Freudis Nova homering to left to open the bottom of the second inning.
The home run was the first run allowed by LumberKings starter Remey Reed. The River Bandits came storming back in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good. 11 batters came up in the inning to score six runs on eight hits.
Reed (2-1) failed to make it through the inning and was handed his first loss of the season for a 2.2 inning outing. He allowed seven runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out two.
The offensive eruption benefited Layne Henderson who earned the win for Quad Cities. Over a 2.1 relief outing, he allowed no runs on two hits while walking one and striking out five.
The lose is the seventh straight for Clinton - dropping them to six game out of first and shrinking their lead in the Wild Card to just one game.
The LumberKings will meet the Quad Cities River Bandits for game two of their three-game series on Thursday night. Clinton will throw righty Jake Walters (3-3, 2.67) while Quad Cities will tap righty Matt Ruppenthal (4-0, 3.45). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. (CDT).
