July 24, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Pit Spitters continue their winning ways against the Rivets, defeating Rockford 9-4 on Saturday night.
The Pit Spitters are now 5-0 against the Rivets on the season.
For the second night in a row, the Pit Spitters scored first. Michael Stygles knocked in Zeb Roos before scoring on Trey Yunger's two-out triple.
But just like last night, the second inning saw the Pit Spitters lose the lead. Rockford scored three runs, two earned, to take the lead. But the Pit Spitters tied it in the bottom half on Roos' RBI groundout.
In the third, Yunger knocked in another run and Stygles scored on a wild pitch to reclaim the lead. In the fourth, the lead increased on a sacrifice fly from Tito Flores and a two-RBI single from Yunger.
Yunger continues to own the Rivets. He claimed Northwoods League Player of the Night on July 13 going 4-5 with four runs scored and three RBI's against Rockford. Tonight, he was 3-4 with four RBI's.
Pitching was solid all night for the Pit Spitters. Rylan Tinsley only had the one bad inning but locked it down after. Morgan Lunceford (W, 2-2, 2.94) threw two scoreless innings with one strikeout. Anthony Ramirez followed with two perfect frames of his own. And Daniel Carter shut the door in the ninth.
Mario Camilletti added the final run on an RBI single in the eighth. Last night's Northwoods League Player of the Night had a hit and a walk. His OBP (.525) and walks (44) lead the league.
As a team, the Pit Spitters rank first in the Northwoods League in walks (310) and triples (19), second in OBP (.379) and steals (127) and third in runs (321) and RBI's (281). Their OBP and steals are first in the Great Lakes East. The pitching staff ranks fourth in ERA (3.66) and WHIP (1.41). Both are tops in the Great Lakes East.
