Lookouts Snap Five-Game Losing Streak with 5-3 Win

May 14, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

Scott Schebler and Brian Cavazos-Galvez combined to hit three home runs to power the Chattanooga Lookouts (15-23) over the Huntsville Stars (26-13), 5-3 and snap their five-game losing streak.

The Stars jumped out to an early lead against the Lookouts, scoring one run in the first inning and two in the second off of starting pitcher Andres Santiago. Santiago got off to a rocky start, but threw two straight scoreless innings before getting pulled in the fifth inning.

Prior to Santiago getting pulled, the Lookouts' offense began to heat up. O'Koyea Dickson led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and was then brought home on a monster home run by Scott Schebler. An inning later Brian Cavazos-Galvez belted a two-run home run of his own to give the Lookouts their first lead since the first inning of yesterday's game.

With a one run lead the Lookouts' bullpen came in and did the rest of the work. Relievers Juan Noriega and Mike Thomas each threw two inning of shutout ball. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Schebler smashed his second home run of the game to add an insurance run and make the score 5-3 Chattanooga.

The team almost needed that insurance run as Huntsville drew three straight walks to load the bases. Right-hander Pedro Baez (S, 6) then entered the game and struck out the side to cement the team's 15th victory of the year and first against the division leading Stars.

In less than 12 hours the two teams will meet again for the fifth and final game of this series at 11:15 a.m. Right-hander Garrett Gould (1-4, 5.51) looks to turn in his third straight solid performance against righty Jacob Barnes (0-0, 3.86). In his last three starts Gould has only allowed four runs in 15.1 innings (2.35 ERA).

Notes: Scott Schebler's multi home run game is the Lookouts' fourth multi home run game of the year and his second.
