Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to today's game against the Mobile BayBears at Bragan Field at 1:05 p.m.

Right-handed starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani has been promoted from the Suns to the major league Miami Marlins as he earns the first big league call-up of his career. The Marlins announced last night that DeSclafani will make his major league debut by getting the start against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium tonight at 10:10 p.m. ET.

"It's always nice to send somebody from your team to the big leagues," said Suns manager Andy Barkett. "With our day game we're going to be watching him pitch tonight and looking forward to that. We're very proud of him and hopefully he does well tonight and makes us all proud."

DeSclafani made eight starts for Jacksonville this season, going 3-4 with a 4.19 ERA in 43 innings on the mound.

In 2013 DeSclafani was the Miami Marlins Minor League Player of the Year, going 4-2 with a 1.67 ERA in 12 starts with High-A Jupiter, and he pitched for the Suns in the second half of last year, going 5-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 13 starts in Jacksonville.

DeSclafani was acquired by the Marlins in a 12-player trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in November 2012. He was originally selected by Toronto in the sixth round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Florida.

DeSclafani will be opposed by Dodgers southpaw Paul Maholm, as the Marlins look to end a five-game losing streak tonight in Los Angeles.

The Suns roster now stands at 24 active players and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns and BayBears will be back at it Wednesday afternoon from Bragan Field for the fifth and final game of this series. The Suns send out the lefty Justin Nicolino (2-2, 3.11) while the BayBears will counter with right-hander Mike Lee (3-2, 2.30) for Wednesday's finale.

Suns fans can listen to Wednesday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or throughwww.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 12:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show. The 2014 season of Suns baseball is presented by EverBank, the official banking partner of the Jacksonville Suns. Sponsorships, group outings, and season / individual game tickets are currently available by calling the Suns front office at (904) 358-2846.
