Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Braeden Schlehuber drove in three runs on two hits to lead the Mississippi Braves to a 5-2 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits in Wednesday afternoon's series finale. With the win, the M-Braves claimed the series three-games-to-two. The homestand continues with a five-game series against the Smokies. Game one at Trustmark Park is set for 7:00 PM Thursday.
Mississippi (20-19) scored five runs on nine hits. Montgomery (21-18) plated two runs on six hits. In addition to Schlehuber's multi-hit day, Barrett Kleinknecht and David Rohm also had two hits at the plate. The game was 22 minutes late starting due to rain. Another brief rain shower halted play for 20 minutes in the second inning.
After resuming play, the M-Braves took an early 1-0 lead in the second. Seth Loman and Kyle Kubitza walked to start the frame. Kleinknecht then delivered an RBI-single to left field, driving home Loman and giving the Braves an early advantage.
Joe Leonard led off the fourth with a single to left field. Kubitza drew another walk and Rohm singled to center, loading the bases with one out. Braeden Schlehuber followed with a two-run single to center and Mycal Jones delivered a RBI-single to extend the Braves lead to 4-0.
Montgomery got on the board in the sixth. Willie Argo and Taylor Motter both singled to start the inning. A fly out allowed both runners to move up a base before Jake Hager delivered a two-run single to center, cutting the M-Braves lead to 4-2.
Kleinknecht doubled and later scored on another single from Schlehuber to make it a 5-2 game for the M-Braves.
Jason Hursh (3-2) went 5.2 innings for the M-Braves. He gave up two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters. Chasen Shreve worked 2.1 innings of relief. He did not allow a hit and struck out five.
Shae Simmons (S, 10) came on in the ninth to notch his 10th save of the season. Michael Colla (1-5) gave up five earned runs on eight hits and three walks. He struck out three in six innings of work and took the loss.
The M-Braves finish a 10-game homestand with a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies. In game one of the series Thursday night, Braves right-hander Williams Perez (2-3, 1.50) counters Smokies righty Corey Black (2-3, 4.06). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
