17-Run Offensive Explosion Propels Lookouts to 17-6 Win over the Stars

Backed by four home runs, just beating out the previous game's total of three, the Lookouts (16-23) pummeled the pitchers of the Huntsville Stars (26-14) from top to bottom for 17 runs in a 17-6 blowout win. The awesome crowd of 5,386 was filled with enthusiastic school-age children who came to the ballpark on a field trip filled with science and fun.
The game didn't start out looking very good, as the Stars were able to bat around in the top of the second inning, scoring four runs before Garrett Gould could retire the side. A two-out rally in the bottom of the inning was spurred by Gould, when he helped his own cause by doubling home Daniel Mayora and Noel Cuevas. It was the first two RBIs by a Lookouts' pitcher on the season. The team's pitching staff came into the game going a combined 7-for-45 (.156) on the season with three walks and three runs scored.
With Gould on base Darnell Sweeney singled home the right-hander to bring the Lookouts to within one run of tying the game. An unearned run for the Stars in the fourth inning, helped out by two errors and a stolen base, took the lead back up to two. The lead was erased by the second hitter to come to bat, Daniel Mayora, who stung a ball to deep right-center, scoring Chris O'Brien. The inning didn't end before the Lookouts ' took their first lead of the game at 6-5 on another Sweeney single.
The fifth inning was when the Lookouts blew the game wide open. There were 11 Lookouts who came to the plate and eight of them scored, capped off by O'Koyea Dickson's second home run in just as many games. Once all the dust settled, the Lookouts were holding onto a 14-5 lead in the fifth inning.
Two more players had a chance to get a long ball, as Jeremy Hazelbaker hit a two-run bomb in the seventh inning and Ryan Adams popped a solo shot in the eighth inning, giving the Lookouts a 17-6 win. Those 17 runs is the most runs the Lookouts have ever scored while being a Dodgers ' affiliate, beating out the previous high of 16 on August 10th, 2011 against the Birmingham Barons. The last time the Lookouts scored 17 runs was on August 11, 2005, when they were an affiliate of the Reds, playing against the Mississippi Braves.
The Lookouts will make their way back to the Gulf Coast again this afternoon to face the Mobile BayBears (22-16) in a five-game series starting tomorrow night. Their next home game will come next Wednesday night against the Mississippi Braves (19-19).
Notes: The Lookouts' hitters raked from top to bottom. Every hitter that came up to bat had at least one hit and a run scored, except Ozzie Martinez, who was a defensive replacement and pinch hitter in the eighth inning. The only other player not to record at least one RBI in the game was starting left fielder, Scott Schebler.
