London Wins Rubber Game

July 8, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

LONDON, ONTARIO - Jose Vargas and Kyle Colligan each homered, but that was the only offense for the Traverse City Beach Bums as they fell to the London Rippers by a 9-2 final .

Things started off well for the Beach Bums as Vargas cranked his 18th homer of the season for the Beach Bums in the first inning. It was a fitting cap to the first half for Vargas, who will be one of two representatives in the Frontier League All-Star Game Homerun Derby to take place on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Joining Vargas will be TC outfielder Jeff Flagg.

The good vibes didn't last for Traverse City, however, as London quickly went on the offensive, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Rippers plated one more in the second and four in the third and when the dust had settled, London held a 9-1 lead.

It would remain that way until the seventh when Kyle Colligan capped the scoring with a solo homer, his fourth of the year.

The win went to Brandon Sinnery (2-1) who threw eight solid innings allowing two runs on seven hits. Reid Kelly (6-2) took the loss for the Beach Bums.

For Traverse City offensively, Vargas and Colligan each had two hits, as did Sean Gusrang who ended the three-game set with seven base knocks.

Next up for the Beach Bums is the Frontier League All-Star game on Wednesday from the Corn Crib in Normal, IL. Traverse City will be represented by 10 players as well as Manager Gregg Langbehn and coaches Shannon Hunt and Mat Pulley.
