Evansville Takes Series from Freedom Sunday Night
July 8, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE,KY-It was quite the pitcher's duel through the first five innings of Sunday's game between Bryce Morrow of the Evansville Otters and Andres Caceres of the Freedom. One big swing of the bat though, proved to the difference in the final game before the all-star break as the Otters knocked off the Freedom 3-2. The Freedom ended the first half of the regular season with a 27-21 record.
Caceres(4-2) had only allowed one hit going into the sixth inning, however the Otters finally broke through against him by loading the bases. With two outs, Nick Schwaner cleared the bases with a three run double to break up the scoreless game and give the Otters a 3-0 lead.
Morrow(4-4), who collected the win was equally as impressive as he didn't allow a base hit until Arrojo's two out single in the sixth inning. David Harris then drove one down the right field line for an RBI double to give the Freedom their first run of the game. Peter Fatse then followed with an RBI single to cut the Otters lead to 3-2. Unfortunately that would be as close as the Freedom would get. They had a couple of opportunities late in the game against Otter closer Eric Massingham. Jim Jacquot grounded out to shortstop Luis Parache to leave the bases loaded in the eighth. In the ninth, John Malloy hit a double down the right field line to lead off the inning, but then Massingham retried the final three batters, striking out Arrojo to end the game.
Caceres, took the loss as he went 6.3 innings allowing four hits and three runs, while striking out 3 and walking two. Harris and Malloy each had two hits apiece leading the Freedom attack.
The Freedom will have off Monday-Wednesday for the All Star break, as the All Star game will be played Wednesday night at the Corn Crib in Normal, Illinois. The Freedom will resume play Thursday night with a nine game roadtrip and the first of three against the Gateway Grizzlies. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 7:50 pm on Real Talk 1160 and realtalk1160.com.
