Evansville Otters News Release

(FLORENCE, KENTUCKY) - b0 Starting pitcher Bryce Morrow no-hit bid and Nick Schwaner's bases-clearing double powered the Evansville Otters to a 3-2 win at Florence on Sunday night.

Schwaner's big hit came in the top of the sixth inning and Morrow's no-hitter lasted until the bottom half as Evansville won the last series before the Frontier League All-Star Break.

The game started under murky skies of a looming storm and even entered a six-minute delay in the bottom of the first inning. The stoppage did not bother either starting pitcher as the teams had one combined hit until the sixth.

That is when the Otters loaded up the bases against Florence starter Andres Caceras with no one out. Caceres got back to back outs but Schwaner crushed a three-run double off the right-center field wall for the 3-0 edge.

Morrow then got two quick outs in the bottom half of the inning until shortstop Junior Arrojo broke up the no-hitter and started a two run rally.

Trailing 3-2, Florence would rally again in the eighth inning against Kentucky native Patrick Crider. The Freedom worked the bases loaded with two outs but All-Star closer Eric Massingham induced Jim Jacquot to an inning-ending groundout.

Massingham also allowed a leadoff double in the ninth inning but maneuvered around danger to preserve the one-run Evansville win.

The Otters improve to 21-27 this season as the Freedom drop to 27-21.

Morrow (4-4) earns the win for Evansville, allowing two runs on four hits in 7.0 innings. He also had no walks and six strikeouts in the win. Caceres (4-2) is the losing pitcher, after yielding three runs in 6.1 innings. Massingham now has 12 saves this season.

This series marks the end of the first half for the Evansville Otters. Due to the All-Star break, the team does not have a game until next Friday, July 13th at Historic Bosse Field. It will be Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Night at the ballpark with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. CDT.
