Orlando Solar Bears News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears (28-24-3-5), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, were blitzed by Ryan Lomberg's four goals as they fell to the Adirondack Thunder (35-21-2-4) by a 6-2 score in front of 5,509 on Thursday night at the Amway Center.
Orlando surrendered two goals to Lomberg in the opening period, as the forward jammed the puck underneath Rob Madore at 15:05, and then snapped a power-play goal past the goalie at 17:14.
Lomberg continued his scoring frenzy in the second period by completing the natural hat trick on a wrap-around goal that he tucked underneath the stick side of Madore at 11:19.
Erik Bradford had a breakaway chance at 14:22 of the frame, but Drew Fielding slammed his pads together to deny the Solar Bears rookie.
Lomberg added his final goal of the night when he redirected the puck into the net off a pass from the goal line by Peter MacArthur at 4:27 of the third period.
Alexandre Carrier gave Adirondack its widest lead of the evening when he knocked home a cross-crease pass from Terrence Wallin at 5:59.
The Solar Bears countered with a power-play goal from Brenden Miller via a one-timer from Rylan Schwartz at 11:55, and a goal from Johnny McInnis at 16:45, but an empty-net goal from Mathieu Brodeur at 19:05 sealed the game for the Thunder.
Madore took the loss with 39 saves on 44 shots against; Fielding picked up the win with 24 stops on 26 shots against.
NOTES:
Orlando (64 points) remains in 10th place in the Eastern Conference behind Atlanta (65 points) with a game in hand.
Bradford's assist on McInnis' goal extended his point streak to five games (1g-4a).
