
Walleye Ride Lerg Saves to a 6-2 Win

(Indianapolis, IN) Jeff Lerg picked up 45 saves to lead the Walleye to a 6-2 win at Indy Thursday night. Toledo has an overall record of 40-16-2-3 and 17-10-2-2 on the road. Toledo returns home Friday night vs. Brampton.
After a flurry that saw Jeff Lerg rack a bunch of saves, the Walleye would take a 1-0 when Michael Leone (5th) fired a in a wrist shot at 7:57 of the first period. Toledo wasn't done as Josh Shalla picked up his 15th goal of the season when he sent a wrist shot from the left circle that eluded Indy goaltender Keegan Asmundson.
Kyle Bonis (8th) gave the Walleye a 3-0 lead when he sent a wrist shot from the right circle into the top corner of the Indy net at 3:54of the second frame. The Fuel cracked through the Lerg wall at 13:13 with a Ben Marshall wrist shot.
Toledo started to put the game out of reach early in the third period when Kyle Bonis sent a backhanded shot into the net at 2:34. Dominic Zombo (8th) jumped on a rebound at 5:43 to extend the Walleye lead to 5-1. Josh Shalla picked up his second goal of the night with the empty net goal at 18:38.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg started and posted 45 saves on 47 shots and his record is 25-7-1-2 on the season. Indy's power play goal in the third period ended the Walleye record for not allowing a power play goal that went 33 straight shorthanded opportunities. Toledo finished the season series 6-0-1 against the Fuel.
Walleye sign Spink: Prior to the game Toledo signed forward Tylor Spink to an Amateur Tryout Agreement. Spink has spent the last four years at Colgate University. The 23 year old native of Williamstown, Ontario collected 115 points (47G, 68A) in 133 games played for the Raiders. He was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team in 2012-13 when he led Colgate with 31 points (13G, 18A).
