Colorado Eagles News Release
(Loveland, CO) - The Colorado Eagles fell to the Rapid City Rush 4-3 Wednesday at the Budweiser Events Center, despite outshooting the visitors 39-19. Eagles forwards Johnny Lazo and Kyle Ostrow each notched a goal and an assist in the loss.
The Rush scored first in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:17 into the game after forward Lindsay Sparks used a nice spin move to find the back of the net for his first goal of the night.
Rapid City's lead would not hold for long, as Lazo tied the game at 1-1, placing a wrist-shot in the upper right corner past the glove of Rush goaltender Sam Marotta at the 4:01 mark of the opening frame.
The Rush regained the lead late in the first when forward Josh MacDonald scored from the top of the crease with 5:46 to play in the period, giving Rapid City a 2-1 edge. The lead would hold into first intermission.
Rapid City took a 3-1 lead on an odd-man rush at the 11:43 mark of the middle frame. Sparks picked up his second tally of the night on the play scoring off a nice feed from defenseman Ryan Misiak.
The Eagles dug into the Rush lead late in the second when Ostrow took a centering pass from defenseman Collin Bowman and put it in the back of the net, cutting Rapid City's lead to one at 3-2 with 5:44 to play in the period.
The Rush extended their lead to 4-2 early in the third period when defenseman Sean Erickson placed the puck past Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders from the top of the circle with 16:53 to play in the game.
