Loman Wins Southern League Hitter of the Week
June 7, 2011 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release
Hoover, AL - The Southern League announced Monday that Birmingham Barons first baseman/designated hitter Seth Loman was named Hitter of the Week for May 30 - June 5. Joining Loman with SL weekly honors was pitcher-of-the-week, Patrick Corbin of the Mobile BayBears, Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Loman had quite a productive week as both a designated hitter and first baseman for Birmingham. He went 13 for 27, leading the league for the week with six extra-base hits and the highest batting average (.481). He warmed up against Chattanooga, doubling three games in a row from May 30 to June 2 (he did not play on May 31) and he was credited with three RBI and one run in those three games. His two RBI on June 1 helped seal a victory over the Lookouts in the 16th Annual Rickwood Classic. This was the third time in a row that the Barons beat the Lookouts in as many appearances by Chattanooga in this contest. His two hits on June 3 brought in two more runners.
Over the weekend, the Barons traveled to Jacksonville and Loman found even more success at the plate. On June 4, he went 3 for 5 with a double and two singles. The next day he went 5 for 6 with a third-inning homerun to right field and a fifth-inning double with his five hits notching up four more RBI. Birmingham was victorious in all six contests in which Loman participated since May 30, scoring 53 runs overall to the combined Lookouts and Suns totals of those games of 22.
Born in Bakersfield, California, Loman was selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 47th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Lamar Community College in Lamar, Colorado and has been a part of the Chicago White Sox organization since 2009. He was previously a Mid-Season All-Star in the Carolina League in 2010.
