Seven Generals Named to Southern League North All-Star Team

KODAK, TENN. (June 7, 2011 - The Jackson Generals will host the 2011 Southern League All-Star Game, presented by State Farm on June 21st and there will be excellent representation from the host team. Seven Generals were named to the North Division All-Star team today by the Southern League. Pitcher's Andrew Carraway, Jarrett Grube, Kenn Kasparek, Erasmo Ramirez and Bobby LaFromboise were named from a pitching staff that has the leagues best ERA at 3.67. They are joined by second baseman Kyle Seager and outfielder Jake Shaffer.

RHP Andrew Carraway, 24 is 4-0 on the season, with a 2.44 ERA in 13 games, six starts. Carraway began the season in the Generals bullpen, but has been arguably the best starter recently. Carraway is 4-0, with a 1.95 ERA in five games, four starts from May 16th to June 6th, covering 32.1 innings. In that stretch, Carraway has held opponents to just a .186 batting average. Carraway was selected by the Mariners in the 12th round in 2009 out of the University of Virginia. He resides in Canton, GA.

RHP Jarrett Grube, 29 leads the Generals with 52 strikeouts this season and is 4-1, with a 3.57 ERA in 11 starts. Jarrett has walked just 16 batters in 68 innings. Grube was signed by the Seattle Mariners in 2010 and was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 10th round in 2004 out of the University of Memphis. He resides in Corruna, IN. Grube was also a Texas League midseason All-Star in 2007.

RHP Kenn Kasparek, 25 was placed on the disabled list on May 13th and will be unable to participate in the All-Star Game. Kasparek, at the time of his injury was 4-2, with a 3.45 ERA in six starts. Kasparek was the Generals best starters in April, finishing the month 3-1, with a 3.09 ERA. Kasparek held opponents to just a .232 average. Kenn was selected by the Mariners in the 12th round in 2008 out of the University of Texas. He resides in Weimar, TX. Kasparek was a California League midseason All-Star in 2010.

LHP Bobby LaFromboise, 24 is the only Generals reliever to be named to the All-Star team. LaFromboise leads the Generals with 21 appearances and has four holds this season. In those 21 games, he is 2-2, with a 2.55 ERA. LaFromboise was selected by the Mariners in the eighth round of the 2008 draft out of the University of New Mexico. He resides in Downey, CA.

RHP Erasmo Ramirez, 21 leads the Generals, and is tied for second in the Southern League with six victories. Ramirez is 6-2, with a 3.89 ERA in 11 starts this season. Ramirez has displayed pinpoint accuracy in his first Double-A season, walking just five hitters in 69.1 innings. That is a 0.65BB/9IP ratio that leads the Southern League. He has 50 strikeouts. Ramirez was signed by the Mariners in 2007. He resides in Rivas, Nicaragua. Ramirez was a midseason Midwest League All-Star in 2010.

OF Jake Shaffer, 23 has the league's ninth best batting average at .323 going into his 56th game of the season. Shaffer is first in the league in hits (74), and third in total bases (124) this season. Jake leads the Generals with nine homeruns and is third on the team with 30 RBI's. He leads the Generals with a .532 slugging percentage. Shaffer had a 10-game hitting streak, May 23rd to May 31st and league best 14-game hitting streak, April 16th to April 30th. Shaffer sparked the Pringles Park crowd on May 6th against Birmingham with the first inside the park grand slam in club history. Jake was selected by the Mariners in the 15th round of the 2008 draft out of Northern Kentucky University. He resides in Cincinnati, OH.

INF Kyle Seager, 23 is tied for the league lead with 21 doubles this season. Seager leads the team with 36 RBI's and has a .315 batting average. Seager leads the Generals with a .390 on-base percentage. Seager is currently on a season best 10-game hitting streak that dates back to May 28th. Kyle had a 13-game hitting streak from April 20th to May 8th. Kyle has 19 2-out RBI's this year, which has pegged him the nickname "Mr. Clutch". Seager was selected by the Mariners in the third round of the 2009 draft of the University of North Carolina. He resides in Kannapolis, NC.
