Knoxville Smokies News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - In his Double-A debut, Dallas Beeler came through with a clutch performance. He kept hot-hitting Jackson at bay over six scoreless innings to lead the Tennessee Smokies to a series-tying 6-0 win over the Generals Tuesday night at Smokies Park. The win is big as it puts the Smokies (37-22) two games ahead of Jackson (35-24) in the race for the first half Southern League North Division title.

Beeler (1-0) was outstanding in his Smokies debut. The 21-year-old right-hander, who was called up from Class A Peoria Saturday, received the win after hurling six scoreless innings and allowing seven hits with four strikeouts.

The Smokies offense provided Beeler all the run support he needed in the early innings. In the second inning, Matt Spencer doubled to lead things off, and came in to score on a single from Josh Vitters. Nelson Perez followed with his second home run of the year, a two-run shot to right center to make it 3-0.

The Smokies added some insurance in the sixth inning, Perez walked then advanced to second on a wild pitch from Jackson pitcher Brian Moran. After a Nate Samson groundout, Brett Jackson extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run home run to left, his sixth of the year.

Steve Clevenger singled to lead off the eighth and scored on a Vitters double to left, making it 6-0.

The Smokies bullpen followed Beeler's lead and were just as impressive, as Ty'Relle Harris worked two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and Rafael Dolis finished things up with one strikeout in a scoreless ninth. Tom Wilhelmsen (1-1) took the loss for Jackson after allowing three runs on five hits in four innings.

The rubber game of the five-game set between the Smokies and Generals will be Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. RHP Robert Coello (0-1, 5.40) will make his Smokies Park debut and will face off against LHP Anthony Vasquez (3-4, 4.28). For tickets visit www.smokiesbaseball.com or call (865) 286-2300.
