Norfolk Admirals News Release

BRAMPTON, ON - The Norfolk Admirals had four multipoint scorers and Alexis Loiseau notched his second goal of the game 25 seconds into overtime to defeat the Brampton Beast 6-5 Sunday afternoon at Powerade Centre.

Tommy Mele opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the road trip, a deflection off an Alexis Loiseau shot at 5:44 of the first period. Mele drifted across the goalmouth and screened Brampton goalie Andy Iles as he raised his stick to redirect Loiseau's attempt.

Almost six minutes later, Jeremie Blain capitalized on the Beast's first power play of the afternoon. Closing in through the left circle, Blain spotted an opening in the top shelf above Admirals netminder Philippe Cadorette's left shoulder and pulled the trigger. Blain's wrister rippled the net in the corner to tie the game at 1-1 with 8:24 remaining in the first period.

Reggie Traccitto tallied a go-ahead goal for the Beast when he yanked a backhander past Cadorette as he fell to the ice outside the crease. Nick McParland and Travis Brown assisted on Traccitto's third of the season at 14:49 of the first for the 2-1 lead.

The Beast broke through on the power play once again with 22 seconds to go in the period. Chris Auger picked up Mike Vernace's rebound by the left circle and traversed into the slot before zipping a shot by Cadorette's left side for a third unanswered goal. Brampton led 3-1 at the first intermission.

Head Coach Eric Veilleux decided to replace Cadorette with Adam Courchaine for the rest of the afternoon. The rookie Cadorette allowed three goals on 12 shots faced.

Norfolk came out of the break firing and surged to tie the game by the six-minute mark of the second period. Mele deked his way to his second goal of the contest and 10th of the year at 3:58, and Scott Allen capped off an odd-man rush by placing feeds from Steven Whitney and Nick MacNeil in the back of the Beast net at 5:47 on the man advantage.

Alexis Loiseau, in his third game back with the Admirals from AHL Bakersfield, retook the lead for Norfolk with a breakaway goal while on the penalty kill. It was his second marker since rejoining Norfolk on Friday night.

The 4-3 lead lasted nearly seven minutes into the final frame, and it was Jeff Brown who peppered the top left corner with a bullet from the left dot at 6:57 of the third.

A back-and-forth affair continued into the latter stages of the third as Blain sat for holding. On the power play, Michael Pelech jammed a puck off the doorstep and across the goal line to put the Admirals up 5-4 late with only 2:36 left in regulation.

However, Allen upended Vernace at the Norfolk blue line with 1:50 to go. Brampton pulled Iles to add the extra attacker for a 6-on-4 man advantage. Exactly halfway through the power play, Courchaine stopped Blain's try from the slot, but Brown followed the shot and smacked the rebound behind Courchaine to deadlock the score at 5-5. Overtime followed regulation which saw four lead changes and four ties.

It took Loiseau 25 seconds to put away the Beast as Whitney drew a defender and slid a pass across the slot to Loiseau. Iles stood no chance as Loiseau shelved a snap shot to lift the Admirals to a 6-5 overtime victory.

Five of the 11 goals scored came on the man advantage. Norfolk went 2-for-8 and Brampton 3-for-6. As for the goaltenders, Courchaine earned his second win as an Admiral by saving 21 shots on 23 attempts. Iles gave up six goals on 36 shots.

Norfolk heads for home after going 3-2-0-0 on this five-game road trip. The Admirals host the Reading Royals at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16.

Three Stars of the Game:

1. BRM - 19 Jeff Brown

2. BRM - 5 Jeremie Blain

3. NOR - 23 Michael Pelech
