Americans Fall to Idaho in OT

Allen Americans News Release

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans once again welcomed the Idaho Steelheads to the Allen Event Center for Ugly Sweater Day, losing in overtime, 3-2.

While the Americans enjoyed offensive success in their last meeting with the Steelheads, Allen was hard pressed to get anything going in the offensive zone in the first period. Rather, it was Idaho who enjoyed an early period Power Play, featuring the opening goal from Emil Molin. While Joel Rumpel is still on the shelf, it was Riley Gill who couldn't catch up to a cross ice one timer that put the Steelheads out front, 1-0. The Molin goal was all either team could muster in the opening period.

Sporting their "Ugly Sweater Day" jerseys, the Americans were able to cash in shortly after the beginning of the second period. Chad Costello ripped one from a seemingly harmless spot along the boards. That shot stunned Phillipe Desrosiers, the Idaho netminder, and pulled Allen into a tied game at 1-1. However, Idaho would answer late in the second with a goal of their own on a centering feed to Andrew Carroll, who made no mistake en route to a 2-1 lead. With a 23-9 shot advantage, Idaho controlled much of the game through the first two periods.

Allen would claw their way back into the game after a fight between Gary Steffes and Andrew Panzarella. After serving his time in the penalty box, Steffes tied the game, completing his Gordie Howe hat trick. With no further scoring, Allen and Idaho went to overtime to settle things. Late in the overtime period, Cole Ully was the one to break the score, giving Idaho the 3-2 overtime win.

The Allen Americans will hit the road for three games beginning in Colorado. The team returns home Monday, December 21st, against Tulsa.
