Local Student Names Rush Mascot

Since its introduction to the public, the Rapid City Rush Mascot has been without a name, but after conducting a naming contest with local schools the Mascot has been named Nugget.
Earlier today Rapid City Rush and its Mascot surprised a third grade class during hockey drills in the gym at Corral Drive Elementary to make the announcement.
Dylan Dettman, a local third grader in Mrs. Donohoe's class at Corral Drive Elementary, is the lucky winner of the Mascot Naming Contest.
Dettman will drop the puck at one Rush home game and have an opportunity to ride the Zamboni during the game's first intermission. In addition, his entire third grade classroom won a pizza party with Rapid City Rush and Nugget.
The Mascot Naming Contest was conducted with third grade classes in the Rapid City School District. Entries were reviewed by a Rush judging panel and the finalists were chosen by the creativity of the students' explanation for the mascot's name. The most suggested Mascot names were Rocky, Digger, Nugget and Rex.
"All the names that were submitted were great," said Assistant General Manager Tim Hill. "This contest gave us an opportunity to work with local schools and provided a fun learning experience for students. Nugget has great significance to the mining history of the Black Hills Region."
Nugget can be seen tomorrow evening at Boston's Restaurant and Bar for the Listening Party presented by Rush Flagship Station 100.3 The Fox.
