Opening Night Roster Released
October 16, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today released the roster for the start of the 2008-2009 regular season, which begins Friday, October 17th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.
The final 18-man roster came about after three players were waived to get the RiverKings down to the league-required limit. The players waived by Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski included Barry Horman, Tom Boudreau, and Stephen Schofield.
All three players competed in both of the weekend exhibition games played against Bossier-Shreveport, a 3-1 RiverKings' victory on Friday, October 10th, and a 5-0 Mississippi loss to the Mudbugs on Saturday, October 11th, both played at the DeSoto Civic Center.
Horman failed to score in each of the two exhibition games he played in last weekend and totaled two shots on net for the weekend. Horman played 14 games at the University of Calgary and 26 contests with the Arizona Sundogs last season.
Boudreau also went scoreless in the two pre-season tilts and picked up one minor penalty in Friday's game, finishing the weekend with two shots on goal. Boudreau split time last season between Indiana (MAHL), and Reading and Bakersfield in the ECHL.
Schofield scored the first goal in Friday's contest against the Mudbugs and took six shots on net in the two weekend contests.
"These were some hard decisions to make," said Kaminski about the cuts. "It's the worst day in hockey for a coach to have to make these kinds of decisions, but they have to be made."
The opening night roster will have four veterans, returning RiverKings Derek Landmesser, Louis Dumont, plus Jeff Nelson and Jeff Alcombrack. The make up of the team has seven defensemen, nine forwards, and two goaltenders.
This year's edition of the Mississippi RiverKings will take the ice on Friday, October 17th in a 7:05 PM home contest, presented by Cellular South, against the Wichita Thunder. For season and group ticket information, contact the RiverKings' office at 662-342-1755!
