INDIANAPOLIS -- Behind a lights-out effort of eight strikeouts in six scoreless innings from Pirates rehabbing left-hander Francisco Liriano, the Indianapolis Indians (50-41) blanked the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (43-47) for the second consecutive game in a 1-0 edging on Monday night at Victory Field.

Liriano gave up each of his three hits within the first five batters he faced before dialing in to retire 15 consecutive IronPigs from the second inning through the sixth. The lefty capped his dominant start with five consecutive strikeouts and departed having tossed 76 pitches and 53 strikes.

Including tonight's stellar outing, Liriano now boasts a 2-0 record with a 2.45 ERA (2 ER/22.0 IP), 31 strikeouts and just a lone walk in three rehab appearances with the Indians from 2013-14. Liriano also improved his lifetime ledger in the International League to a 2.61 ERA with 256 whiffs to 56 walks in 37 starts between the Indianapolis Indians and Rochester Red Wings.

With Liriano's night in the books and the contest still scoreless, Brent Morel stroked a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh and scored two batters later on a sac fly from Mel Rojas Jr. to break the tie and give the Tribe a 1-0 lead.

Righty Vin Mazzaro then pitched the second of his two scoreless innings with a shutout eighth. Indians' All-Star closer Andy Oliver followed Mazzaro and slammed the door with an unblemished ninth for his ninth save of the season.

The blanking extends the Tribe's scoreless streak against the 'Pigs to 22 straight innings dating back to June 10, while also marking the Tribe's first set of back-to-back shutouts since June 11-12, 2012.
