Back-to-Back Shots in Tenth Lift PawSox 5-3

(Columbus, OH) - Andres Torres and Travis Shaw clubbed back-to-back home runs in the tenth inning to complete a comeback from an early 2-0 deficit as the Pawtucket Red Sox defeated the Columbus Clippers, 5-3, in ten innings Tuesday night at Huntington Park in the third of a four-game series.

Will Middlebrooks, continuing a Major League injury rehab assignment, played the first nine innings as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the PawSox two-run sixth. Middlebrooks is now 5-for-19 with two walks and three RBI in six games since resuming his rehab stint last week.

Torres followed Jonathan Herrera's one-out single in the tenth with a mammoth blast out to right (3) for the go-ahead homer against Columbus reliever Bryan Price (0-1). It was Torres' second longball in as many days. Shaw followed with an opposite field drive into the seats in left (7), his fifth home run in the last two weeks.

Pawtucket (48-46) won its second consecutive game after dropping five of the first six games it played in July. Starter Allen Webster allowed single runs in each of the first two innings but settled down after and lasted seven full innings and threw a season-high 108 pitches.

Webster, who allowed a solo home run to Justin Sellers (1) in the second that made the score 2-0 Clippers, gave up eight baserunners in the first two frames but then only four more over his final five innings. He walked four and struck out six on the night.

After being shutout for the first five innings, Middlebrooks' RBI double got Pawtucket on the scoreboard in the sixth against Columbus starter Tyler Cloyd. Alex Hassan followed with an RBI single to right that tied the score. Neither side plated another run until the PawSox scored three in the tenth.

Drake Britton (2-3) pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth and earned the win. Newcomer Miguel Celestino allowed a two-out home run to Carlos Moncrief (9) in the tenth but retired the other three men he faced to earn his first Triple-A save.

The finale of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night with first pitch at 7:05 pm, as the Clippers try to take three out of four. Right-hander Steven Wright (3-1, 2.40) is slated to start for the PawSox against Columbus righty Toru Murata (0-0, 5.31). Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.

Following the ten-game road trip and the subsequent Triple-A All-Star break, the PawSox return to McCoy Stadium for a four game series against Buffalo that begins on Thursday, July 17th.
