TONIGHT'S GAME: The Red Wings and Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays) play Game 4 of their 5-game series tonight (7:05 p.m.) at Frontier Field after the Bisons came from behind to steal Game 3, 7-6, on Monday night. Still, the Wings are 3-2 on their 7-game, 6-day homestand, 8-2 over their last 10 games and sit just 3.0 GB of Syracuse in the IL North . Rochester still owns a 2.5-game cushion in the Wild Card standings over Columbus. Buffalo - in 3rd place in the North (7.5 GB) - has dropped 4 of their last 6 games after going 13-4 in a 17-game stretch from 6/18-7/2.
WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS WILL...:
- The Wings will win the 5-game series over Buffalo and claim their 13th series victory of the season.
- Avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time since June 23.
TUESDAY'S TRANSACTIONS : C/OF Chris Herrmann was recalled to Minnesota on Tuesday after the Twins put RHP Ricky Nolasco on the DL. This will be Herrmann's 3rd stint with the Twins this season where he's hitting .122 (5-for-41) in 17 games. With Rochester, Herrmann was hitting .314 with 16 XBH (2 HR) and 15 RBI in 33 games...Filling Herrmann's roster spot will be C Josmil Pinto who was activated off the disabled list after missing 13 games with a left hip flexor strain. Pinto was batting .282 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in 12 games with Rochester since being optioned down on June 12.
ON THE OFFENSIVE : The Wings have scored at least 6 runs in 9 of their last 10 games. Over this 10-game stretch, the Wings have scored 79 runs (7.9 R/G) on 115 hits (11.5 H/G) -- including 50 extra-base hits, 15 of which have been home runs (10 of which have come w/ runners on base). The Red Wings are hitting .311 (115-for-370) and have been even better with RISP batting .349 (38-for-109) over this stretch. Rochester has also had 12 innings in which they've scored 3 or more runs over the last 10 games.
- Just 11 days ago the Wings ranked T-9th (344) in the IL in runs scored. They now rank 2nd (423) -- 10 R behind COL.
- ROC ranks in the top 5 in the IL in AVG (1st, .272), R (2nd, 423), H (2nd, 841), 2B (1st, 194), 3B (T-5th, 18) & SLG (3rd, .406)
FOR STARTERS : Over the last 11 games, Red Wings starters are 7-0 with a 2.88 ERA (21 ER/65.2 IP) . The last starter to suffer a loss was Kris Johnson on June 26 @ LHV when he allowed one run over 7.0 innings in a 1-0 loss. The last starter who took the loss without turning in a quality start was Alex Meyer on June 23 @ BUF (3.2 IP, 4 R).
- The Red Wings completed a perfect trip through the rotation 6/29-7/3 with all 5 starters earning a win. It was the 2nd time in as many seasons Rochester has accomplished the feat. Prior to last year, they hadn't done in since 1998.
MEYER FOR MAY AT THE FUTURES GAMES : Red Wings right-hander Alex Meyer will replace the injured Trevor May (calf strain) on the U.S. Team's roster for the MLB Futures Game on Sunday, July 13 at Target Field in Minnesota. Meyer, who will make is 18th start of the season for Rochester tonight and 10th at home, has put together back-to-back quality starts where he's allowed a combined 2 runs on 6 hits in 12.0 IP . In his previous 3 GS, he allowed 7 runs on 14 hits in only 8 2/3 innings.
GET THIS GUY SOME RUNS: Meyer has allowed 1 or fewer ER in 10 of 17 GS this season, however, the Wings are just 8-9 in his 17 starts as he's received the least amount of support (3.18 R/G) among all Red Wings starters. Since scoring 12 runs behind him on May 4 vs. LOU, the offense has scored a total of 24 runs in his last 11 starts (2.18 R/G). Over his last 5 starts, he received a total of just 6 runs .
- All other starters with at least 14 GS for Rochester have received no less than 4.5 R/G of support.
HOMER HAPPY : The Red Wings have hit almost 25% of their home runs this season over the last 10 games (15 of 61) . After ranking tied for last in the league in homers on June 29, the Wings now rank 8th...Over this stretch, 9 different Red Wings have homered...Of the 15 HR hit over the last 10 games, 10 have come with runners on base...Of the 61 homers hit this season, 39 (64%) have come with at least one runner on and 18 (30%) have come with at least 2 runners on base.
