Rochester Red Wings News Release
THE ROCHESTER RED WINGS took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a Wilkin Ramirez sac fly and Ryan Pressly closed it out in the ninth giving the Wings the win, 3-2, over the Buffalo Bisons, Tuesday night at Frontier Field. The Wings have now clinched the five-game series win over the Bisons -- their 13th series victory of the season. With the win, Rochester avoided losing back-to-back games for the first time since June 23.
- ALEX MEYER (5-4, 3.43 ERA) turned in his third straight quality start pitching six innings allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 10. Over his last 3 starts, Meyer has allowed just 4 ER in 18.0 IP (2.00 ERA) after allowing 7 ER in 8.2 innings over his previous 3 starts (7.27 ERA). The double digit strikeout performance is his third this season and his first since throwing back-to-back 11 strikeout games on April 23 at PAW and April 28 vs. CHA. The 10 punch outs are his fifth career double-digit strikeout game.
- DOUG BERNIER (2-for-4; 2B, 2 RBI) gave the Wings a 1-0 lead in the third with an RBI double and tied the game with a run-scoring single in the fifth. Bernier is hitting a team-best .406 (26-for-64) with RISP this season and has a team-leading 41 RBI in 76 games. The 41 RBI are already the 3rd-most in his career (46 in 2013 & 42 in 2008). He now has recorded a hit in nine of his last 11 games, batting .356 (16-for-45) with 3 2B, 3B, 2 HR, and 12 RBI.
- THE RED WINGS have won 7 of their last 9 at Frontier Field and now own the best home record in the International League at 33-17 (.660). The 33 wins are tied for the most in all of Triple-A with Sacramento (33-15). Since May 27, 2013, Rochester is 64-32 over their last 96 games at Frontier Field.
- EDGAR IBARRA (4-0) entered in the seventh in relief of Meyer and tossed two scoreless innings, including picking off two runners at first. Ibarra pitched two innings allowing one hit while striking out one, recording his fourth win of the season. Since allowing a season-high 5 runs in 0.1 inning on 7/1 vs. NOR, Ibarra has bounced back with two scoreless outings (4.2 IP). Ten of his last 11 outings have been scoreless.
- RYAN PRESSLY pitched a scoreless ninth inning facing the minimum while notching his team-leading 6th save. The bullpen managed to face just nine batters over 3.0 innings of work. The Wings bullpen has now walked just one batter in their last 26.1 innings dating back to July 3.
