Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Infielder Marcus Lemon, who is hitting .273 (9-for-33) in nine games with the Double-A Birmingham Barons this season, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today. Lemon will take the roster spot of infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia, who was placed on Charlotte's disabled list (retroactive to April 28). Charlotte's active roster is set at 24 players.
Lemon, 27, was signed by the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on March 12, 2015. He spent the 2015 campaign with Birmingham and hit .268 (71-for-265) in 95 games. Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round of the 2006 June Amateur Draft, Lemon hit .385 during a nine-game hitting streak last season with the Barons (5/20-6/1). He is the son of three-time American League All-Star Chet Lemon, who played 16 seasons in the majors with the White Sox (1975-81) and Detroit Tigers (1982-1990).
Garcia has appeared in 16 games with the Knights this season and is hitting .275 (14-for-51) with seven runs scored, two doubles, one home run, five RBIs, and five stolen bases. He swiped 30 stolen bases with the Knights last season becoming just the 11th player in franchise history to achieve that feat in a single season.
The Knights will open a six-game homestand tonight with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers). After the game, fans can enjoy post-game fireworks courtesy of BB&T and News Talk 1110 WBT. On Saturday, fans can enjoy live post-game music by Pushh. Sunday's 2:05 p.m. game -- the finale of the three-game series - features the first Bark in the Ballpark game of the season and dogs are welcome to come out to the game courtesy of Purina and PetSmart. Pre-game radio coverage of tonight's game is set for 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 730 AM and charlotteknights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad, along with broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
