Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs topped the Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-2, in walk-off fashion Friday night. The win gave the Chiefs their fifth in the last six games. With the victory and a Lehigh Valley loss, the Chiefs returned to first place in the International League North division.

Syracuse (11-9) was held scoreless through the first five innings of play, mustering only three hits. The Chiefs' first scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the second inning. Kevin Keyes led off with a walk, followed by a single from Matt Skole. With one out and runners on first and second, Brian Goodwin fouled out behind the plate and Brendan Ryan struck out swinging, ending the inning.

Pawtucket (11-10) took advantage in the top of the third. Ryan LaMarre led off with a solo home run to right-center field. Chiefs' pitcher Taylor Hill rebounded after the home run, retiring Sean Coyle, Deven Marrero, and Marco Hernandez in order.

The Red Sox got back on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Sean Coyle led off with a single to right field. Coyle then stole second and later advanced to third on a Deven Marrero fly out. Blake Swihart drove in Coyle with a ground-ball single to right field two at-bats later, giving Pawtucket a 2-0 lead.

Syracuse answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring its first run of the night. Scott Sizemore led off with a line-drive single to left field. Pawtucket pitcher Brian Johnson then retired the next two batters in order, Keyes on a strikeout and Skole on a fly out. Jason Martinson followed with a two-out single. With runners on first and second and two outs, Brian Goodwin singled to right field, plating Sizemore, cutting the Red Sox' lead to 2-1.

The Chiefs nearly broke the inning open after the Goodwin single. Johnson walked the following batter, Ryan, giving Syracuse a bases-loaded opportunity with two outs. Anthony Varvaro was thrust into the jam in relief, against Jhonatan Solano. With the count at 3-1, Varvaro picked off Goodwin at second base, ending the Chiefs' rally.

Syracuse threatened again in the bottom of the seventh. Trea Turner reached on a bobbled ball error from second baseman Coyle. Sizemore followed with a walk, setting up Keyes with runners on first and second and two outs. Keyes though, flied out to right field, ending the frame.

Syracuse had another good scoring chance in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, Goodwin walked, Ryan singled, and Solano walked, loading the bases for Caleb Ramsey. Ramsey followed with a fly out to center field, however, ending the threat.

The Chiefs finally broke through in the bottom of the ninth. Turner led off, reaching first on an error from first baseman Sam Travis. Turner stole second on the next pitch. Sizemore followed with a pop out to second base. Keyes then struck out, but the ball was dropped by catcher Blake Swihart. Keyes took first when Swihart's errant throw pulled Travis off the bag. Jose Lozada pinch-ran for Keyes and Skole followed with a walk. With the bases loaded and one out, Martinson hit a ground ball fielded in the hole at shortstop. Turner scored on the infield single and Lozada scored when Deven Marrero's throw to second hit the runner, Skole. The two-run ninth handed Syracuse a 3-2 victory.

The Chiefs are back in play Saturday afternoon at 1:05. Austin Voth is slated to take the ball for Syracuse opposite Roenis Elias of Pawtucket.
