Louisville Bats News Release
DURHAM, N.C. - The Louisville Bats swept the Durham Bulls and the six-game road trip on Friday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, 4-2. For the first time in franchise history, Louisville has swept a road trip of six or more games.
Down 2-0 in the top of the sixth, left fielder Jesse Winker came to the plate with two runners on and took a 3-2 pitch over the wall in right, giving the Bats a 3-2 lead. Kyle Waldrop would add one more after supplying a single with two outs, capping the sixth inning and giving the Bats all they needed for the win.
The win went to right-hander Robert Stephenson (2-1, 1.50) who took the mound for the first 6 innings, collecting a staggering 11 strikeouts while allowing two runs to Durham. The 11 strikeouts tie his career-high, done two other times.
The Bulls earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the third with a home run from left fielder Dayron Varona and added their second and last run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. The Bulls went hitless the final five and two-third innings of the game after scoring the early two runs.
The Bulls starter, left-hander Blake Snell pitched well through five, allowing just one hit. The hiccup in the sixth ended his night after five and one-third innings, allowing four hits, four earned runs, walking three and striking out six.
The Bats six-game winning streak is the most since the club won nine in a row during the 2012 season.
The Bats return to Louisville Slugger Field tomorrow to face the Durham Bulls at 6:05 PM. Bats right-hander Tim Adleman (2-0, 4.24) climbs the hill against Bulls right-hander Jaime Schultz (2-1, 3.86) in hopes to continue the Bats winning streak.
