Edinburg, TX - The Texas Legends (2-2) secured their second consecutive win and first road victory of the season Thursday night, taking down the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (0-2) 119-110 at Bert Ogden Arena. The matchup marked the first of a two-game road set between the teams, with a rematch slated for Saturday night.
Texas showcased balanced scoring and defensive energy, led by Dalano Banton, who tallied 24 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds while shooting a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. Sheldon Edwards added a season-high 21 points off the bench, drilling five threes to help the Legends pull away in the fourth quarter.
Zhaire Smith continued his consistent play, adding 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Miles Kelly contributed 17 points and 7 rebounds. Matthew Cleveland anchored the glass, pulling down a game-high 19 rebounds.
The game was tightly contested early, with the teams tied after the first quarter and trading baskets through the third. But a late push by Texas, capped by timely buckets from Edwards and Kelly, sealed the win.
On the other side, Daishen Nix led the Vipers with 26 points and 7 assists, while Efe Abogidi added 24 points and 6 rebounds. Isaiah Crawford posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 boards, but RGV struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 28.6% as a team.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Edinburg as the Legends look to extend their win streak to three.
