July 19, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters avenged a loss from a night ago with a 1-0 win against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Saturday night. The Cutters notched their third shutout of the season improving to 16-3 at Susquehanna Bank Park and 17-3 against the Pinckney Division.

The Cutters bats struggled early on for a second consecutive night against Mahoning Valley. Leandro Linares came into his start leading the New York Penn League in walks, but he would retire seven consecutive batters to start the game. Williamsport picked up their first hit against Linares with one out in the bottom of the third inning as Austin Bossart singled into left field. With two outs Zach Coppola drove in Bossart from second base giving him 7 RBI on the year.

Williamsport would make the 1-0 score hold up against the Scrappers as Luke Leftwich worked five scoreless innings in his second start of the year. Leftwich scattered three hits on the night allowing just two Mahoning Valley base runners to get into scoring position. Leftwich struck out three batters while surrendering just one walk. Kenny Koplove held the Scrappers at bay during his two innings of relief allowing one hit and striking out two batters.

The Cutters looked to add some insurance to their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning getting runners to second and third after a single from Coppola and a fielding error that allowed Mark Laird to reach base. The Cutters would strand the runners as Venn Biter lined out to the shortstop. Anthony Sequeira picked up his second save of the season working a clean eighth and ninth inning, retiring all six batters he faced.
