
Hudson Valley Wins Close One Over Connecticut

Norwich, CT (7/19/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Connecticut Tigers by a score of 3-2 on Sunday evening at Dodd Stadium. That is the fourth straight win for Hudson Valley as they improve their overall record to 16-12, while Connecticut falls to 12-16.
Neither team scored a run until the top of the fifth inning when the Renegades took a 1-0 lead on a RBI double from first baseman Nic Wilson. Hudson Valley extended their lead to 2-0 in the sixth inning as with two outs, Matt Dacey hit an RBI single to score right fielder Cade Gotta. That lead became 3-0 for the Renegades in the seventh inning on a two-out RBI double from shortstop Michael Russell.
Connecticut cut the Hudson Valley lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI single by third baseman Jose Zambrano and a RBI sacrifice fly from designated hitter Cam Gibson. But Renegades reliever Brandon Koch recorded the final eight outs to earn the save.
Benton Moss (1-0) started for Hudson Valley and earned the win, tossing five shutout innings and allowed four hits while striking out three batters. Koch picked up his first save of the season, going two and two-third innings without allowing a run.
Andres Tejada (1-1) took the loss for the Tigers, allowing two runs off five hits in three innings of relief.
Notes: Since being part of the starting rotation, Benton Moss has been strong on the mound. Between his start today and his first start of the season on July 13th against Batavia, Moss is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA. In his two starts, he has allowed one run off five hits in eight innings of work and has struck out nine batters.
Hudson Valley plays the series finale against the Connecticut Tigers on Monday, July 20th at 7:05pm. The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday, July 21st as they host the Williamsport Crosscutters, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
