Doubledays Trip against West Virginia

AUBURN, NY - The Doubledays dropped the third of a four-game series to the Black Bears 8-5 at home and are now 1-4 against West Virginia this season.

The Black Bears went up early on in the very first inning. Kevin Kramer doubled, Kevin Newman singled, and Logan doubled to give the Bars a 2-0 lead. Hill was later brought in on a single by Albert Baur, who later scored on a triple by Ryan Nagle as West Virginia went up 4-0.

After a scoreless second, the Black Bears struck again in the top of the third. West Virginia struck for three runs on four hits, all of which were singles, and took a 7-0 lead.

An inning later in the bottom of the fourth, the Doubledays scored their first runs of the day. WIth one out, Max Schrock doubled into right. Jakson Reetz dug in next and was hit by a pitch before Randy Encarnacion singled to left to load the bases. Schrock then scored on a sacrifice fly from Edwin Lora before Victor Robles drove in Reetz and Encarnacion with a triple to right. At the end of four, the Doubledays trailed 7-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, Seth McGarry struck out the side, but did give up one hit and it was a big one. Rhett Wiseman led off the inning with a long homer over the right field wall to put the score at 7-4. It was Wiseman's third home run of the season.

After a scoreless sixth, the Black Bears added to their lead in the top of the seventh. Hill led off with a single, moved to second on a walk to Moore, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Casey Hughston, and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Baur. At the seventh inning stretch, West Virginia led 8-4.

In the eighth, the Doubledays scored and pulled closer at 8-5. Reetz worked a walk and scored all the way from first on a double into the left field corner from Lora.

After Matt Pirro retired the side in order in the top of the ninth, the Doubledays didn't manage to score in the bottom of the inning as Wiseman was stranded on first to end the game.

Mariano Rivera III started for the Doubledays took his first loss as his line was: 3 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, and 2 K's. Seth McGarry started for the Black Bears and earned his first win as his line was: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, and 4 K's.

The Doubledays return to Falcon Park Monday at 12:05 PM to face the Black Bears. Taylor Hearn (1-1, 3.00 ERA) starts for Auburn against Jonathan Brubaker (1-3, 6.64 ERA) for West Virginia.
