Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (12-16) dropped their second straight game to the Hudson Valley Renegades (16-12) on Sunday afternoon 3-2.
Connecticut has now lost eight of eleven games. Hudson Valley has won four straight contests and seven of eleven.
Hudson Valley scored runs in three straight innings to take the lead. With the game scoreless in the fifth and Andres Tejada (1-1) on the mound first basemen Nic Wilson (3-4, 2 2B, RBI, R) doubled home third basemen Hector Montes making it 1-0. In the following inning with two outs and Tejada still pitching right fielder Cade Gotta singled and stole second. The next batter was designated hitter Matt Dacey and he drove home Gotta with a base hit to make it 2-0.
After the Renegades scored a run in the top of the seventh pushing the lead to 3-0 Connecticut tried to rally in the bottom half of the inning. Shortstop AJ Simcox led off the inning with a single and scored on a Jose Zambrano (3-4, RBI) single cutting the deficit to 3-1. After leftfielder Jacob Kapstein was hit by a pitch the bases were loaded for designated hitter Cam Gibson who lifted a sacrifice fly. However, 3-2 was as close as the Tigers would get.
Tyler Alexander started the game for Connecticut and worked three hitless innings. Alexander only allowed one base runner all day and it was on a leadoff walk. It was the first home start for the Detroit Tigers second round pick out of TCU.
Hudson Valley got a strong start from Benton Moss (1-0). Moss worked the first five innings allowing four hits while striking out three and walking none. Moss was a sixth round pick from North Carolina. Brandon Koch (SV 1) went the final two and two thirds for the save. Koch allowed two hits and struck out one while walking another.
Connecticut will play Hudson Valley tomorrow at home in the final game of the three game series. The first pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
